The painted bat (Kerivoula picta), also nicknamed “fire bat”, is a species of vesper bat in the Vespertilionidae family. Small groups of these animals are often found in the most unlikely roosts such as in the suspended nests of weaver finches and sunbirds or under the eaves of huts. Doubtless the bright and broken coloration of these bats is a form of camouflage to protect them while they roost in vulnerable sites.
Although nothing is known of their reproductive habits, Painted bats have nuclear family units – that is, a mother, a father, and young. Hunting flights last around 12 hours. Besides the coloring it is otherwise a fairly normal microbat that uses sonar to catch insects at night. Only male bats are used for taxidermy purposes to allow the females to reproduce.
The wingspan of the painted bat is 18-23 cm. Weight is about 5g.
This moth was featured in the movie SILENCE OF THE LAMBS and well known for its skill pattern on its abdomen. This is a must for any insect collector and framed with high quality materials.
Acherontia lachesis is a large (up to 13 cm wingspan) Sphingid moth found in much of the Oriental region, one of the three species of Death’s-head Hawkmoth, also known as the Bee Robber. It is nocturnal, and very fond of honey; they can mimic the scent of honey bees so that they can enter a hive unharmed to get honey. Their tongue, which is stout and very strong, enables them to pierce the wax cells and suck the honey out.

I have been collecting and producingÃÂÃÂ taxidermy for over 10 years and ensure all product are museum standard. I personally preserve, spread and mount all insect displays in my studio here in London. I use high quality frames ÃÂÃÂ handmade in the UK.
Each specimen may slightly vary from the photos as nature is unique.ÃÂÃÂ The specimen I work with are not rare or endangered and come either insect farming programs (often run by governments or conservation groups), breeders and sustainable sources. For more information, please see our ethics page.
